Arabic

Exploring the Major

Why should you study Arabic?

The Arabic major helps students reach high proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing, enabling them to express complex ideas and engage with abstract topics. Through coursework and a study abroad, students specialize in areas like literature, linguistics, or culture, presenting research in Arabic. The program also encourages interdisciplinary learning and offers access to original sources and native perspectives, preparing students for careers in global and professional contexts. Pairing language skills with another academic discipline will allow students to integrate insights and to provide analysis in diverse career fields.

You will communicate in spoken and written Arabic, gain skills in analyzing and appreciating both traditional and modern literature, acquire effective research strategies, and learn to write clearly and persuasively. This prepares students to work as analysts and experts on the Middle East for government agencies, businesses, and other organizations. Linguistic skill in Arabic, as well as a solid understanding of the history, politics, arts, and culture of the region is vital to these agencies
