Students earning a major in Portuguese Studies (Secondary Major) explore the vibrant linguistic and cultural heritage of the Portuguese-speaking world, including its literature, history, art, and traditions. The program provides essential knowledge of Lusophone cultures across Portugal, Brazil, and other regions while fostering advanced proficiency in the Portuguese language. Why should you study Portuguese?
The Portuguese Studies (Secondary Major) at BYU provides students with an opportunity to have a Portuguese major in addition to another major at BYU. Students will develop advanced language skills while exploring the cultures, literature, and history of Portuguese-speaking countries. Housed in the Department of Spanish & Portuguese, the program offers opportunities for study abroad, internships, and research.
